Abstract The Regional Superfund Ground Water Forum is a group of ground-water technical specialists, representing EPA's Regional Superfund Offices, organized to exchange up-to-date information related to ground-water remediation at Superfund sites. Mathematical models have a potentially useful role to play in arriving at a decision on the remedial action to be taken at a contaminated site. Where there is a need for a quantitative estimate of the threat to public health resulting from a particular course of action, of the estimated cost and time of clean-up for a particular remediation strategy, or of the results of other actions to be taken at a contaminated site, mathematical models have a greater potential to provide the needed information than any other approach to the problem. For contaminated sites in fractured rock, however, this potential has yet to be realized.
