Abstract |
The Eau Claire Municipal Well Field consists of a 500-acre site located in the northwest corner of the city of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Eau Claire municipal well system supplies drinking water to approximately 57,500 residents and to numerous commercial and industrial establishments in the city of Eau Claire and the town of Washington. In March 1981, as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Groundwater Supply Survey, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) tested and found the Eau Claire municipal water supply contaminated with volatile organic compounds. The following organic compounds were identified in the municipal water supply: 1,1-dichloroethene, 1,1-dichloroethane, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, and trichloroethene. The selected remedial action includes construction of air stripping facilities to remove volatile organic compounds from the contaminated flow. The treated water will be discharged into the municipal water treatment plant and distribution system. |
