Abstract The Regional Superfund Ground Water Forum is a group of ground-water scientists representing U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (U.S. EPA's) Regional Offices, organized to exchange up-to-date information related to ground-water remediation at hazardous waste sites. Well casing materials used at hazardous waste sites is an issue identified by the forum as a concern of CERCLA decision makers. All aspects of a ground-water sampling program have the potential to affect the composition of a ground-water sample. The high degree of accuracy (parts per billion (ppb) range) required of some chemical analysis dictates that all potential sources of error of a ground-water sampling program be identified and sources of error in such aspects be minimized. Selection of the proper casing material for monitoring wells has been a subject of much controversy since the publication of the U.S.
