||To satisfy stream discharge requirements at its Winchester, N.H., chrome tan shearling tannery, the A. C. Lawrence Leather Co., Inc. selected primary and secondary systems that are unique as applied to tannery effluent treatment in the United States. Primary clarification is accomplished by means of coagulation and flotation, using electrolytic as well as mechanical micro-bubble generation. The secondary biological section is a so-called CARROUSEL, TM a technical modification of the Passveer oxidation ditch. During the 12-month study, complete analytical data representing winter as well as summer operating conditions were acquired along with operating cost data. This report presents these data and describes the design and operation of the system. Possible applications of the same principles to other tannery wastewaters are also suggested.
