Abstract |
The mining, milling, and processing of mineral resources may cause varying degrees of technologically enhanced natural radioactivity (TENR) which is dependent on the inherent uranium and thorium content of the target resource and the details of the total extraction process. The objective of this review is to identify from the available domestic literature possible metallic and nonmetallic mineral extraction industries (exclusive of uranium, phosphate, and fossil fuels) which may require subsequent assessment. Certain industries such as phosphate and coal are already identified as potential sources of radioactivity; hence, they are excluded from this overview. |
