Abstract One portion of the study was conducted to develop models or methods of defining interception storage of snow on conifer trees. Field data obtained in physical modeling of individual trees and data taken from the literature were used to define mathematical relationships and were subsequently incorporated in a computer simulation model for prediction of interception storage by a stand of trees. Several forms of the sigmoid curve were useful in defining relationships between precipitation, interception storage and the end of storms and vegetational parameters. Surface ratio, related to crown projection area, was a suitable parameter in defining differences in the format of the sigmoid curves. Second portion of the study was conducted to determine the interception characteristics of both artificial and real trees using artificial snow. (Modified author abstract)
