Abstract |
The organization of this report follows four phases: Industry characterization, Waste characterization, Treatment and disposal technology, and Cost analysis. The heaviest concentration of electroplating and metal finishing facilities is in the North Central Region of the U.S., followed by the Atlantic Coast states and the state of California. Four types of wastes were identified as being destined for land disposal: water pollution control sludges, process wastes, degreaser sludges, and salt precipitates from electroless nickel bath regeneration. Estimated quantities of waste destined for land disposal by industry (job shops) during 1975, 1977, and 1983 are shown. Although metal finishing embraces many industrial operations, this study was limited to Electroplating, Anodizing and dyeing, Electroless and immersion plating, Chemical conversion coating (phosphate, chromate, etc.), and Chemical polishing and electropolishing. |
