Abstract In order to meet the objectives of having a realistic tool for predicting and assessing if a bioremediation technology can be successful implemented, The 3DFATMIC model has been developed. This numerical model simulates (1) the fate and transport of multiple microbes, electron acceptors, substrates, and nutrients and density-dependent fluid flow in saturated-unsaturated subsurface media under either steady-state or transient conditions; (2) multiple distributed and point sources/sinks as well as boundary sources; and (3) processes which degrade and transform contaminants, cause the growth and death of microbes, and control the fluid flow.
