Abstract |
The Oak Ridge Reservation (USDOE) (OU6) site is located within the K-25 plant, a former uranium enrichment facility in Oak Ridge, Roane County, Tennessee. Since the 1940's, the fabrication, decontamination, and maintenance processes associated with activities at the site, known as K-25, have produced hazardous and radioactive wastes. The ROD addresses an interim remedy to reduce the migration of contaminants and degradation of the environment caused by the SW31 discharge while the investigation of the K-1070 OU continues. The objective of the ROD, which addresses OU6, is to terminate the direct discharge of contaminants to surface water by intercepting and routing contaminated waters for treatment via an NPDES-permitted outfall prior to discharge to surface water. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the surface water are VOCs, including benzene, PCE, TCE, toluene, and xylenes; other organics, including PCBs and PAHs; and metals, including lead. |
