Abstract |
The primary objective of this remedial action is to mitigate risks to human health and the environment from exposure to contaminated soil and waste. Low levels of metals, organic compounds, and radionuclides were detected in soil at the OU 2 sites; Spoil Area 1 and the SY-200 Yard. The selected remedy for Spoil Area 1 and the SY-200 yard addresses the principal threats at the sites by maintaining the existing waste covers and implementing specific access and use restrictions. Access and use restrictions will prevent unacceptable exposure to the contaminants. Deed restrictions will be implemented to restrict construction that could negatively impact the integrity of the covers at the sites and prohibit waste intrusion. Restrictions will also require incorporation of indoor radon mitigative measures in accordance with EPA guidelines for any future structure built on site. |
