Abstract |
The emphasis of the workshop was placed upon the problems of sample collection, extraction, and fractionation prior to detection of the pollutants of interest by the appropriate detection techniques. Wherever possible, methods or procedures were stressed that were applicable to the analysis for general classes of organic compounds as opposed to procedures for individual compound identifications. What follows is a summation of the techniques discussed at the workshop. Many of these are currently being used by water laboratories to analyze industrial effluents, natural waters, bottom sediments, and aquatic biota for industrial and agricultural organic-chemical pollutants. In addition, some discussion is provided regarding analytical quality control in the organic laboratory. |
