Abstract |
The report summarizes regulations for NOx abatement in Japan, describes techniques for abatement by means of combustion control, and analyzes in detail current wet and dry processes for denitrification of flue gases. The major fuel in Japan is heavy residual oil. Lesser amounts of coal are used. Natural gas usage is insignificant. Six different low-NOx oil burner designs are discussed. Eleven major NOx scrubber plants have been completed or are nearing completion. Descriptions of the major NOx removal processes are included. The chemistry of NOx liquid reactions is discussed as it applies to the various scrubber processes: advantages and disadvantages of the processes are listed. Ongoing research and development projects in Japan are also discussed. |
