Abstract |
The EPA document is intended to help State hydrogeologists and resource managers choose from among the many methods that have been devised for assessing the susceptibility of ground water to pesticide contamination. Each State should choose a method based on its own ground water protection philosophy, hydrogeology, pesticide usage patterns, agronomic practices, available resources, and the requirements of its State Management Plan (SMP) for pesticides. The document describes the general categories of assessment methods, gives examples of each, and discusses their characteristics and limitations, including their suitability for different purposes and different hydrogeologic zones. It also provides guidance on how to choose and evaluate a method (or methods), taking into account both technical and administrative concerns. Appendix A gives contacts for all the methods discussed in the document, should readers want more information. |
