Abstract |
The study was proposed with the objective of determining how the dispersion of a thermal jet could be limited. When one speaks of limiting the dispersion, one may consider the entire spread or a percent of the temperature difference. In the study the focus has been on keeping the lateral band narrow. On the basis of a literature review and experimental results, some means of controlling a thermal plume are suggested. The distribution of the heat in the ambient fluid can be controlled to some extent in the region just downstream. For example, surface spread of a hot jet can be reduced by mixing with cooler ambient fluid before the jet surfaces. |
