Abstract |
The synergistic effect of CO and two commonly prescribed drugs, phenacetin and diphenhydramine hydrochloride were evaluated. The COHb saturation tested was 14 percent (above average for cigarette smokers), while drug doses were those usually prescribed. No synergistic effects were observed in the study. Three additional observations were made: (1) the occurrence of CO induced headaches at COHb saturations of 14 percent; (2) the possible effect of CO exposure on EEG activity at this level; and (3) the finding that phenacetin, as an analgesic, did not lessen the headaches induced by the CO exposure. |
Highlights Notes |
