Abstract |
In 1951, the Division of Engineering Resources of the Public Health Service reported a study of 1,782 college graduates who had received undergraduate education in sanitary engineering in the 40-year period 1910-49. The results showed that a little more than half of that group were employed in the profession in 1950. The purpose of the present study is to find out why half of those who made a choice in favor of sanitary engineering as undergraduates were not practicing it in 1950. Identification of the reasons that cause graduates who have completed sanitary engineering courses to depart from the sanitary engineering work area may permit the formulation of measures to reduce the loss.
