Abstract |
This project was initiated to study the effects of two industrial waste materials on 18 items used to contain these wastes. Seventy-two test cells, 1 ft in diameter and 2 ft high, were fabricated. Ten items were mixed with a clayey silt and compacted in the bottom 6 in. of the test cell; six spray-on and two prefabricated membrane items were placed over 6 in. of compacted soil. Four gallons of sludge were added to each test cell and enough tap water to bring the liquid to within 4 in. of the top of the test cell. Each test cell was covered and pressurized to simulate 30 ft of head. This report lists and discusses the data following 12 months of inundation of each item with both sludges. Portland cement, cement plus lime, and C400, when mixed with the soil, resulted in a significant reduction in permeability. |
