Abstract The state of the art of technology for control of emissions from wood particle and fiber dryers has been summarized and the status of compliance for such installations in the United States defined. Operational aspects of wood and fiber panel production are discussed. Pollutant emissions from dryer systems are characterized and emission measurement techniques are reviewed. For each major control option, the degree of success achieved in meeting regulations, major problems, approximate costs, and recommended applications are summarized. It has been concluded that particle dryers can be operated in compliance with most regulations, particularly those related to concentration, mass emission rates, and opacity, although no control system is universally applicable.
