Abstract The document provides a generic process-by-process assessment of pollution prevention opportunities for the Kraft segment of the pulp and paper industry. The process areas covered are: wood yard operations, pulping and chemical recovery, pulp bleaching, pulp drying and papermaking, and wastewater treatment. These process areas are further broken down by specific process (e.g., oxygen delignification as one specific process under the pulping and chemical recovery area). For each specific process there is a description, a cost estimate, a discussion of applicability, and estimate of environmental benefits, and a list of references.
