Abstract EPA's Office of Drinking Water is interested in using the C.t concept for providing guidance as to adequate disinfection for inactivating Giardia cysts. Using both animal infectivity and excystation data a model has been developed for predicting C.t values. The model is then incorporated into a regulatory strategy that may be used for specifying C.t values for EPA's Surface Water Treatment Rule.
