Abstract | Repro- ductive toxicity of thiram was evaluated in artificially inseminated New Zealand white rabbits dosed (number in dose group) 0 (18), 1 (15), 2.5 (18), 5 (20), and 0 (14) mg/kg/day by gavage gestation days (GD) 6-19. Maternal mortalities for the doses listed above were 1/18, 1/15, 2/18, 4/20, and NR/14, respectively. Necropsies indicated deaths were not compound-related, but due to respiratory or gastro-intestinal tract disorder, or tracheal intubation. Maternal weight gain for low and mid dose groups was similar to the second and superior to the first control group (which was considered to perform poorly relative to historical controls), while that for the high dose group was similar to the first control and inferior to the second (p<0.05 GD 6-10, 12, 16, and 18; p<0.01 GD 6-14). Abortions (and total litter resorptions) for the dose groups above were 1 (0)/18, 0(0)/15, 0(1)/18, 1(1)/20, and 0 (0)/14. Thiram was not considered the source of loss due to absence of increased postimplantation losses. No significant differences were reported for corpora lutea count, total implantations, viable young, sex ratio, early or late resorptions, pre- or post-implantation losses, or fetal and placental weights. A slight reduction of incidence of fetuses with both incisors erupted in the high dose group was within range of historical controls. | |||||||||||
