Abstract |
To implement the Congressionally mandated land disposal prohibitions of the 1984 amendments to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), EPA must determine whether adequate treatment technologies exist, what wastes can be treated and how effectively, what residues and environmental discharges are produced, and what the associated costs are. As part of the program to develop this information, characterization of treatment residues from technologies treating or destroying wastes that have been listed for priority action were determined. The primary focus of the study was to characterize residues resulting from treatment of solvent (F001-F005) wastes and metal-bearing (inorganic compounds on the California list) hazardous wastes. A divesity of waste types, process configuration, and operating procedures were examined. Data are presented on waste and treatment residue characteristics, including data from a second generation leaching procedure, the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) and its predecessor, the EP Toxicity Characteristic. |
