Abstract |
The document attempts to compile citations and brief descriptions of studies and data regarding toxic air emissions released during training exercises for firefighting at airports. Many training exercises use real aviation fuels (JP4, JP5...) to simulate real fire conditions. The burning of such fuels also causes the release of toxic combustion by-products. Such practices have raised concerns about the public health effects of the combustion by-products. Little is known about the emission characteristics of such burning. The purpose of the work is to find what recent data are available on the toxic and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and on health effects from open burning of aviation fuels. |
