Abstract |
A survey of pest control operators was made in 1961 to determine any possible long-term toxic effects of pesticides. The difficulties in surveying large numbers were overcome through the cooperation of the National Pest Control Association. Personnel of member firms completed a questionnaire which included biographical, occupational, and medical data. The medical questions were designed to elicit a record of any significant disease in both personnel and their relatives. Each company submitted information on number of personnel, rate of turnover, and use of sick leave. Review of the safety practices revealed deficiencies on the part of some personnel. Correction of these deficiencies might lead to an even better safety record. |
