Abstract This paper summarizes the information in the Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) document for Diclofop-Methyl. Diclofop-methyl is a restricted herbicide used on wheat, barley, and golf courses (turf). It suppresses various grass weed species. Although Diclofop-methyl is classified as a likely human carcinogen based on laboratory studies, EPA's human health and environmental risk assessment indicates that food and drinking water risks are well below the agency's level of concern. Diclofop-methyl is also not persistent in soil under aerobic conditions and has very low persistence in anaerobic soil or water. The residues that do not reach surface waters will likely be degraded by microbial metabolism. A prospective groundwater study (PGW) was undertaken and based on the results, neither diclofop-methyl or its degradate migrated to the groundwater. EPA finds that the currently registered used of diclofop-methyl are eligible for reregistration provided, engineering controls for both aerial and groundboom handlers, as well as product labeling are satisfied.
