Abstract Glycolate dehalogenation is the process of using a chemical reagent (a glycol in this case) to remove halogen from contaminants, consequently rendering them less hazardous. A chemical reagent is a substance used to react with and change another substance. This dehalogenation process can be used on halogenated contaminants such as PCBs and dioxins that may be found in soil and oils.
