Abstract |
Submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) plays an important role in the ecological functioning of the Chesapeake Bay. The precipitous decline of Chesapeake Bay grasses prompted the attention of Bay researchers and managers to determine the causes for this loss and to annually monitor the distribution and abundance of the remaining population. It was determined that a comprehensive Baywide approach to restore and protect submerged aquatic vegetation was necessary, resulting in the development of the Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Policy for the Chesapeake Bay and Tidal Tributaries, and subsequent Implementation Plan. |
