Abstract |
Three types of commercially available equipment for the analysis of H2S and other odorous sulfides have been evaluated for performance and reliability at stack emission levels of 0.1 to 100 ppm in air. These included coulometers (3 models) flame photometric detectors plus gas chromatography (2 models) and tape sensors with or without a preliminary gas convertor (3 models). None of these instruments is capable of analyzing for H2S in this range in the presence of large amounts of SO2, CO2, CO, COS, and CS2, which may characterize stack emissions from a Kraft paper mill or a petroleum refinery Claus plant. Reasons for these failures are examined, and modifications of presently available equipment are recommended for this purpose. |
