Abstract |
The recA protein, a molecule of 38,000 M(r), is a multifunctional polypeptide directing a number of activities, none of which is completely understood in detail. Its central role in homologous recombination and DNA-damage repair has created considerable interest. Numerous studies in the last eight years to identifying and characterize the gene have revealed the widespread distribution and evolutionary conservation of recA. In the review, authors explore the current knowledge of the general microbiology of recA and its protein product. |
