Abstract |
This study uses an empirical economic model to study the recent decline in U. S. gasoline demand. The model's predictions are compared to actual experience over 1978-80 and projections of future demand are made through 1990. The model predicts the stock of automobiles, average fuel efficiency, and vehicle miles driven. These forecasts all combined to yield estimates of gasoline consumption. The model forecasts unleaded gasoline, leaded gasoline, and diesel usage separately for cars, trucks, and other users. |
