Abstract |
The primary purpose of the study was to apply systems engineering techniques to optimize solid waste collection vehicle selection and replacement. Because of finite time limitations, the scope of the study was limited to vehicles used for the collection and transportation of residential refuse. Another constraint placed on the study was that only collection vehicles that could satisfactorily comply with existing city and state highway loads limits and yet have only one rear axle were to be evaluated. The study was also limited to truck chassis and compactor bodies that were available and serviceable through dealers within 50 miles from Lawrence, Kansas. |
