Abstract The report describes an investigation of the hydrologic aspects of global climate change with application to the American River, Washington. Part of the study attempts to quantify the effects of assumed regional warming on the runoff patterns within the catchment. Runoff sequences for the watershed are generated using several hydrologic models, and a comparison of the results is made. The investigation also explores the potential effects of greenhouse warming on hydropower production, agricultural water deliveries, and fisheries releases through a sensitivity analysis of a single multiple use reservoir. In addition to studying the interaction of multiple operating objectives, the potential for mitigation of climate change effects via improved reservoir operations is analyzed using an operations optimization model.
