The purpose of the paper is twofold: to summarize some important principles concerning the phenomena of acid precipitation and the atmospheric deposition and their effects, both beneficial and detrimental, on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and to enlist the creative interest of biologists generally in this emerging area of scientific research.
