Abstract The report was developed to determine the optimum materials and equipment for applying chemical agent resistant coating (CARC) to vehicles at the Army Transportation Center at Fort Eustis, VA. A life cycle assessment (LCA) was conducted to identify the performance, cost, and environmental impacts of various combinations of CARC materials and equipment. The variables for the study were the primer, thinner, CARC topcoat, and spray application equipment. Combinations of the variables were grouped to develop five alternatives. The recommended alternative would change the existing primer and application equipment, but retain the existing thinner and topcoat. The alternative would maintain required performance characteristics, achieve cost objectives, and result in low environmental impacts in relation to the other alternatives.
