Abstract |
A conventionally constructed observation well was modified to allow combined air injection and extraction (CIE) during a pilot study in which dual vapor extraction (DVE) was applied. Compared to DVE, water recovery rates were reduced over 90% while the distribution of subsurface vacuum remained about the same. The results of this investigation indicate that combined air injection and extraction offers the potential for improved air circulation without the complicating affects of water-table upwelling and screened interval obstruction caused by water movement toward a vacuum extraction well. |
