Abstract The Rocky Flats Plant (USDOE) (Operable Unit 2) site is part of the 6,550-acre Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear weapons research, development, production, and plutonium processing complex in Jefferson County Colorado. Since 1951, DOE has used the site for manufacturing components for nuclear weapons, processing plutonium, and fabricating, machining, and assembling components from metals. The ROD addresses OU2, which includes the 903 Pad and Lip Area, Mound Area, and East Trenches Area, which are located southeast of the Rocky Flats Plant, and provides an interim remedy for contaminated soil and ground water. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil and ground water are VOCs including PCE, TCE, toluene, and xylenes; inorganics; metals, including arsenic, chromium, and lead; and radioactive materials.
