Abstract This decision document presents the selected remedial action for the groundwater operable unit at the Douglas Road Landfill Site (the Site) in Mishawaka, Indiana. The major components of the selected remedy include: groundwater extraction using extraction wells or collection drains to contain groundwater in the downgradient direction of the groundwater plume; grounwater treatment through construction of an artificial wetland; re-infiltration of a portion of the extracted groundwater that has undergone treatment in the constructed wetland; discharge to Juday Creek of a portion of the treated groundwater, in compliance with NPDES substantive and administrative requirements developed for the site by IDEM; groundwater and source area monitoring to ensure that the goals of this action are met and that downgradient water supplies are not adversely impacted by groundwater contamination; and long term operation and maintenance of the remedy to ensure protection of public health and the environment.
