| Abstract |
The Vestal Water Supply Well 1-1 provides drinking water to several water districts in the Vestal area. In 1978 a chemical spill at the IBM plant in Endicott led to a testing program for all drinking wells in the vicinity for synthetic compounds. Significant concentrations of chlorinated solvents were discovered in well 1-1. Subsequent investigation has since indicated that the presence of chlorinated solvents in the well is not related to the spill at the IBM plant. In late 1982 an investigation implicated, in part, the area around the southeast corner of Stage Road as a suspected source. The primary contaminants of concern include: VOCs, TCE. Selected remedies are proposed and included in the report. |
