Abstract |
The 2-acre Rocky Hill Municipal Well Field site is located in Montgomery Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. Montgomery Township Housing Development (MTHD), located north of the well field, contains 77 private homes. Two wells, numbered 1 and 2, were constructed in 1936 to provide a source of potable water to the Borough of Rocky Hill. A 1978 study revealed TCE contamination levels in Well 1 and was abandoned and sealed by 1978. Further testing, conducted between 1978 and 1983, revealed cycles of elevated levels of TCE in Well 2. It was closed in November 1979, reopened and again closed in January of 1982. The selected remedial action for the site includes: ground water pump and treatment using air stripping with reinjection; connection of any remaining affected residences to the public water supply; sealing remaining private water supply and monitoring wells within the contamination plume; and implementation of ground water sampling program to monitor the effectiveness of the cleanup. The estimated capital cost for the remedial action is $1,618,000 with annual O&M of $84,000. |
