Abstract A demonstration program was conducted from 1971 to 1973 to evaluate water savings, costs, performance and acceptability of various water-saving devices. Reduced flow toilets and flow limiting shower heads were installed in eight single-family dwellings. In three of the homes bath and laundry water was filtered, disinfected, and reused for tiolet flushing and/or lawn sprinkling. Water requirements for toilet flushing are described as substantially reduced in an economically attractive and aesthetically acceptable manner. Other findings are also discussed.
