During September, October and November, 1949, the Water Department of Oklahoma City has a very serious taste and odor problem in one of their two storage reservoirs, Lake Hefner. Because these problems have arisen in the new storage reservoir, Hefner, and all water supplies are obtained from the North Canadian River, the Oklahoma City officials are apprehensive of the possible effects of the recently completed Canton Reservoir on their water supply. The purpose of this investigation was to study ecological conditions in Canton Reservoir and to examine the situation at Oklahoma City in order that the problem could be more adequately defined. The Oklahoma City water supply reservoirs and plants were examined and data collected on their physical characteristics, their mode of operation, the chemical content of the water, turbidities and their general ecology. |
