Abstract |
Increasing interest in development and conservation of our country's water resources has been reflected in the concern which legislatures have shown with the problem of water pollution. Within the last decade more than half the States have adopted new legislation in this field or strengthened existing laws, and in 1948 the Congress passed the Water Pollution Control Act, the first attempt by the Federal Government to join with the States in a comprehensive attack on the problem as a whole. A 'Suggested State Water Pollution Control Act' has been prepared as a part of this effort. The underlying concept and purpose of the paper is to facilitate interstate cooperation for a more concerted attack on water pollution. (Author) |
