Abstract The report contains the methodology to evaluate, in economic terms, potential power plant boiler and cooling system water recycle/reuse programs. Drum type boiler systems and closed cycle cooling systems are used as the basis for the programs' water requirements. The evaluations take into account the variable plant characteristics such as makeup water quality, fuel type, thermal efficiency, capacity factor and fixed charge rate. The evaluation methodology is applicable to existing and proposed power plants, on an individual plant basis--and can be used to determine the over-all economics of potential recycle/reuse programs. The report is the first of a series that addresses the water recycle/reuse potentials of typical power plant processes.
