Abstract |
The overall purpose of this report is to identify and evaluate Best Management Practices (BMPs) for reducing pesticide contamination of aquatic systems from agricultural nonpoint sources (nps). Since the 1950's pesticide inputs to water resources have become increasingly recognized as a serious, pervasive and yet largely unquantified problem. The report reviews documentation of pesticide-related water resource use impairments, and examines the transport modes of five major pesticide classes. This information is used to develop estimates of pesticide input reductions which can be accomplished by various classes of BMPs (soil and water conservation practices, improvements in application techniques, and intergrated pest management programs). |
