Abstract The report describes and compares 0600-0900 AM nonmethane organic carbon compound data from 29 cities collected during summer periods of 1984 and 1985. Considerable differences are observed in those areas that are anticipated to have different volatile organic compound emissions. Range of benzene and toluene concentrations are presented for the 29 urban areas. It appears that variation in the observed concentration range is more evident for toluene than benzene. This observation suggests that there may be more discrete sources for toluene than benzene.
