Abstract |
A plane, horizontal, two-dimensional, incompressible, turbulent wall-jet of air was studied experimentally. Results indicate that the distributions of the mean velocity directions do not become similar with increasing distance from the nozzle. The self-similar form of the non-dimensional mean velocity profile develops within a distance of about 9 nozzle heights from the nozzle exit. It appears that the various turbulence intensities and the Reynolds shear stress reach similarity states at different distances between 16.3 and 20.1 nozzle heights from the nozzle exit. The concept of eddy viscosity does not promise to be very useful in dealing with wall jets. (Author) |
