Abstract The Montreal Protocol on Substance that Deplete the Ozone Layer restricts the production and consumption of some ozone-depleting chemicals. Chlorofluorocarbon 1,1,2-trichloro- 1,2,2-trifluoroethane, commonly referred to as CFC-113, is one of these chemicals. CFC-113 is used widely as a solvent to clean electronics assemblies, delicate instruments and surface (defined as precision cleaning applications in the report), and metal parts and surfaces. CFC-113 also is one of the solvents used to clean clothes and other fabrics and materials by the dry cleaning industry. The report discusses the solvent uses of CFC-113 and the feasibility of replacing CFC-113 with alternative cleaning agents or processes to reduce and eventually eliminate the need for CFC-113.
