| Abstract |
In 1996, the District of Columbia (DC) submitted the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Priority list and Report to EPA containing a list of waters that do not or are not expected to meet water quality standards as required by Sections 303(d)(1)(A) and 303(d)(1)(B) of the Clean Water Act (CWA). The Section 303(d) list of impaired waters was revised in 2002 based on additional water quality data and contains an updated priority list that is used to determine the order in which TMDLs will be completed. By following the TMDL process, states can establish water-quality based controls to reduce pollution from both point and nonpoint sources to restore and maintain the quality of their water resources (EPA, 1991). |
