Abstract A computer program has been written and applied to investigate the stochastic distribution of equilibrium temperature as determined from a standard meteorological data base. The equilibrium temperature at an air-water interface is the temperature which would be attained by the surface if the net heat flow through it were zero. Since it is a basic factor in the prediction of actual water temperatures, the distribution of equilibrium temperature, and hence of water temperature, is an important statistic.
