Abstract |
A severe water shortage, both for domestic and industrial purposes, developed in the upper Colorado River basin in Texas in the spring of 1971. In particular, the Concho River basin, a tributary, experienced extremely low flows during the period 1962-71. These low flows created real difficulties for the city of San Angelo during the spring and early summer of 1971. This study investigates the feasibility of using 'extended range' forecasts of precipitation and temperature in a stochastic hydrometeorological model to optimize the operation of a connected system of multi-purpose reservoirs. The three-reservoir system located immediatly above San Angelo, Texas, was investigated. |
